Harmony Foundation honours Shri. Sanjiv Bhatt and several others with the 5th edition of the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice 2012 The Harmony Foundation on Monday, 31st December 2012 delivered the 5th Mother Teresa Award for Social Justice to Shri. Sanjiv Bhatt, in lieu of his accomplishment for standing against communal forces to ensure the protection of the vulnerable and insecure minorities. Since Shri. Sanjiv Bhatt was not able to collect the award in person on November 28 at a specially held ceremony at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Mumbai, the award was handed over in absentia. Harmony Foundation president Dr. Abraham Mathai then decided to present the award to Shri. Bhatt in Ahmedabad Gujarat, his home state in the presence of Fr. Cedric Prakash and Sisters from the Missionaries of Charity.
Several other persons also received the prestigious Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice this year for their invaluable contribution towards social causes including Dr. Sima Samar, Chairperson of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission & former Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan and Ms. Malala Yousafzai , student and education activist from Pakistan who was shot at by the Taliban for speaking up for right to education of the girl child.
While awards were handed out to the winners in person, Shri. Sanjiv Bhatt could not attend the ceremony and his award was handed over in absentia. It was for this purpose that a specially organised event was scheduled in Gujarat to honour Shri. Bhatt with the award.
“I sincerely believe that Shri. Sanjiv Bhatt is deserving of this great honour. In the wake of attacks by powerful and hostile forces in the State, Sanjiv Bhatt has been consistent in standing up for the rights of others” said Fr. Cedric Prakash, while giving away the award.
Other recipients of this prestigious award in the past have been H.H.Dalai Lama, Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Ansar Burney- Former Human Rights Minister-Pakistan & Baroness Caroline Cox, Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, UK

He passed away but gave a second chance to two lives.
Late Richie Christie is alive today and will live in our hearts forever.
21 years old Richie Christie passed away on October 13, 2012 in a car accident. But he is still alive in our hearts. He made a choice in life that if and when his life will have to move on; his organ must be donated to those in need to give a second chance. He gave second chance to two lives, one from state of Michigan and the second from state of Wisconsin. Who wouldn’t be proud of him?
His parents Ritaben and Roozveltbhai received a Certificate of Recognition in Memory of Richie Christie from the State of Wisconsin personally signed by the Governor Scott Walker. UW hospital was decorated by the beautiful lighting especially in the memory of Richie Christie and others who gave a second chance to someone else by donating their organs before passing on.
Mr. & Mrs. Christie, Ritaben and Roozveltbhai would like to thank each and every one who showed their care and concern from the time the news spread of Richie’s accident on October 13. They would like to thank each and every one who showered their love and lots of prayers since and after the news spread of Richie’s passing away through phone calls, email, text messages and personal visits. They are very thankful to all the friends and family members for standing by them and sharing their pain during their rough and tough time. They would like to thank those who attended Richie’s memorial and burial services. They are thankful for all those who came from all directions and distance and specially the Gujarati Christian community of New Jersey and New York. Please always keep them in your prayers. Dr. Walter Hegan from Gandhinagar, India, father of Mrs. Shalini Kant and father-in-law of Mr. Kalpesh Kant (Chicago), passed away in Ahmedabad on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 5:30 AM. He went peacefully into the arms of Lord Jesus.
Dr. Walter Hegan was 60 years old. Please pray for the entire Hegan and Kant family at this time of great loss.

સદભાવના ફોરમ સાથે નજદીકથી સંકળાયેલ પચાસ યુવાનો તાજેતરમાં આસામમાં રાહતકામ કરવા ગયેલા તેઓ એક માસ બાદ પરત થયા છે. તેમની મુખ્ય કાર્યર્વાહી તો રાહત છાવણીઓમાં આશ્રય લઇ રહેલા હજારો લોકોને રાહત આપવી એ હતી પરંતુ સાથે સાથે સતત ઝગડતાં બે જૂથો:મૂળ નિવાસી બોડો અને બહારથી આવીને વસેલા મુસ્લિમો વચ્ચે સુલેહ શાંતિ કરાવવી એ હતી. યુવા ગ્રુપે આ કાર્યવાહી નિષ્ઠા ને કુનેહપૂર્વક કરી બતાવી છે અને આશ્રિતો વચ્ચે લોકપ્રિય બની ગયા હતા. હવે તેમને છ મુદ્દાઓનો કાર્યક્રમ નક્કી કર્યો છે: ૧. બોડો બોલીમાં પુ. ગાંધીજીની આત્મકથા-સત્યના પ્રયોગો-નો અનુવાદ કરવો, ૫૦૦ નકલો છાપવી ને તેનો પ્રચાર કરી તેના વાચનને પ્રોત્સાહન આપવું. ૨. પ્રાથમિક શાળાઓ કે જે લગભગ પડી ભાગી છે તેને બેઠી કરાવી ને એ માટે કા.પા., વર્ગ ખંડોની મરામત, બંને જૂથોના વિદ્યાર્થીઓને શૈ.સાધનો વગેરે પ્રકારની મદદ આપવી.૩. બોડો તથા મુસ્લિમ શ્રમજીવી મહિલાઓને માટે રોજી રોટીના સાધનો માટે કેન્દ્રો શરુ કરવાં, ૪. જમાતે ઇસ્લામી હિન્દ સાથે સહયોગ કરીને બંને જૂથો માટે ૫૦ જેટલાં ઘર બાંધવાં ૫. બંને જૂથોનાં ૨૫ યુવક યુવતીઓનું જૂથ ગુજરાતમાં આવીને હિંદુ તથા મુસ્લિમ કુટુંબો સાથે રહે તથા બંને કોમોના યુવાવર્ગ સાથે સંવાદ કરે ને એમ સહજીવનનો અનુભવ કરી આસામ પાછા જાય એ હેતુથી ‘એક્ષ્ચેન્જ’ પ્રોગ્રામ બનાવવો અને ૬ બે ગુજરાતી યુવકોએ આસામના આ અસરગ્રસ્ત વિસ્તારમાં એક વર્ષ રહીને ઝગડતાં ને હેરાન થતાં ને પીડાતાં બોડો તથા મુસ્લિમ ગ્રુપો વચ્ચે સુલેહ થાય એ માટે ઉપાડેલું અભિયાન આગળ વધારવું.
સ્વાભાવિક છે કે આ સમગ્ર આયોજન પૂરું કરવાં તથા તેને અમલમાં મુકવા નાણાંની જરૂર પડશે જે માટે જે શુભ ભાવના વાળા જે કોઈ શાંતિ સુલેહ ને ભાઇચારાના વાહકો થવા ઈચ્છતા હોય તેમના ઔદાર્ય પર મદાર બાંધ્યો છે. ને ઈશ્વરમાં શ્રદ્ધા મૂકી આ શુભ કાર્યને પુરૂ કરવાનો દ્રઢ સંકલ્પ કર્યો છે. (ફાધર વિલિયમ)
