FR. VARGHESE PAUL TO GIVE A KEY NOTE ADDRESS IN THE ICOM WORLD CONGRESS IN PANAMA
Fr. Varghese Paul, SJ is invited to give a key note address in the World Congress of International Christian Organization of the Media (ICOM). The World Congress theme is “CHALLENGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AMIDST GLOBALIZATION AND DIGITALIZATION”. The Congress will be held in Panama City in Central America from Sept 28 to Oct. 6, 2013.
Fr. Varghese will speak on the topic “Challenges and Responsibilities of Journalists in Our Globalized and Digitalized World”. He has prepared his speech for a PowerPoint presentation. He has been associating with the International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP) from 1980 when he first time attended the 12th World Congress at Rome. In the Congress Fr Varghese was elected a Council Member of the international body.
Fr. Varghese was also a keynote speaker in the last 24th World Congress which was held in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso in North West Africa. He was in the organizing team when the 16th World Congress was held successfully in New Delhi in 1986.
Fr. Varghese has actively participated in the activities of the international body. He has attended 10 World Congresses and many more world assembles and also conducted seminars and workshops in some Asian and African countries. He has visited 34 countries in the past first for his studies and then for attending international meetings, assemblies and giving seminars and workshops.
The international body UCIP has given him two international awards. He is now the only Honorary Life-time Member from India of the International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP). Fr. Varghese has 45 books to his credit including 4 in English, 2 in Malayalam and 39 in Gujarati. Some of his books have gone into second and third editions. Two of his books are also being translated into Hindi.
